Repetition

Things that are important need to be repeated.

This past weekend, we celebrated Easter. Like Christmas, it is the same story every year, but different parts of Easter can be emphasized. My family attended the sunrise service and heard about the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Later in the day, we celebrated with my in-laws at a church in the city and heard about the disciples on the road to Emmaus. In the evening, our family had devotions and read about the disciples on the road to Emmaus. It was the same story three times, but it is worth hearing three times.

Leaders often have to be the chief reminding officers for their community, continually pointing people to what holds the most value for their organization. It is easy for a person to miss the forest for the trees by focusing on a specific task or situation, but the leader is there to remind them of what is most important and why their work is necessary. It is not that team members do not care, but they do need to be reminded.
