Exams

This week, there have been several exams in my household, including my truck, which needed a safety and emissions test for registration renewal. A test doesn’t really accomplish anything. A repair on my truck accomplishes something, but just testing the status of the repair will not make a difference one way or another. Learning about the Civil War will increase a person’s knowledge about the events of the American nineteenth century, but an exam will not.

And yet, tests are essential. Preparations can be made for a natural disaster, but a test of the system will give people a sense of reassurance or illuminate the plan's weakness. A runner will not get faster by competing in a meet, which is why the runner has trained and sacrificed for months or years leading up to the event. It is one thing to design a bulletproof vest. It is quite another thing to be willing to test that bulletproof vest by wearing it.

Life is a series of tests. Some we are prepared for, and some seem to catch us off guard. It is good to be prepared and to ask for help when needed. If you would like to spend some time considering your tests and level of preparation with a partner, please Contact Us.
