Seen and Heard

This past week, I led a training session on conflict resolution. I felt like the class went well, and people enjoyed it, so I was pleased to see positive comments from the participants in the group, but one of them stood out. This participant wrote several sentences about how I interacted with everyone in the class, answering questions and discussing specific situations that applied for all the members. It felt amazing to have someone notice how hard I worked to help each person in the class feel seen and heard. Even though I have a limited amount of time with them, I try to quickly learn their names and situations, paying attention to the details and needs that they have as individual leaders trying to resolve conflict in their different contexts. Sometimes, a participant will share a story or situation, so if I can incorporate that into how we proceed through the material, it will help people apply the information and see how it can work for them. They don’t just get the information, but they get the experience of being seen and heard, which is powerful for any person.

It was great to hear the comments of the participant who felt seen and heard, and later I realized it was powerful for me because her comments helped me feel seen and heard, as well. If you want to learn more about how to help people feel seen and heard, please Contact Us.
